5 skills that must be taught in highschool.

Introduction:

High School education in many countries is just some formal knowledge of stuff that has not been updated for decades. A high school degree do not enable an individual to produce something useful in the society because he has not been taught to do so. In most of the South Asian countries all you have to learn at high school level is just cramming and memorizing gigantic books and somehow make your way in any so called reputed medical or engineering college within the country which are often even unable to match ISO standards.

Following are the five major skills that one should be taught in the high school:

1. Freelancing:

Freelancing is no doubt one of the fastest growing industries in world. In 2016 it weighed around 1 trillion $. Freelancing is very popular and rapidly growing in South Asia as India, Bangladesh and Pakistan are the three Asian big fishes. As Pakistanis are the 4th most intelligent nation in the world a 6th grader can easily digest the basic CIT course. 8th grader can easily master graphics designing and we will have thousands of skilled freelancers at matriculation level. This is not only about virtual assistance or graphics designing, we should tell our kids how to sale their skills online. Like, if one is good at sketching we should "academically' tell him how can he sale his sketches on fiverr.

2. Carpentry:

Carpentry is also a very useful skill. If a high school graduate already knows about basics of carpenting it will be helpful form to establish a business or seek future in furniture industry as well. It will also be good in exposing the artistic side of a pupil.

3. Scouting:

I am not sure if it can be classified as a skill but it scouting is general is subjected to develop a bunch of qualities in young students to elevate their physical health, sense of responsibility, discipline, coordination, and intellectual level. Although in many countries and regions students are encouraged to participate in scouts movement but in Pakistan scouting movements are being limited day by day. Schools often prefer good grades (obtained by cramming) rather than good physical and mental state of children.

4. Pottery:

Pottery is an amazing art. The soothing qualities of clay helps an individual getting rid of his or her depression. Pottery enhances the creativity of students. It also improves their motor skills as it engages the movement of arms and hands. Pottery also dignifies the self esteem of a student as he makes a beautiful sculpture the acclamation in return motivates him or her to do more good things.

5. Business Assistance:

In many western countries it is mandatory for students to work for a limited time as an assignment to intensify their working potential, team work, management, punctuality and above all to introduce them to the harsh material world. But in Pakistan it is often considered very awkward for a student even from a middle class background to work part-time during studies. Other than that there a very few opportunities for students to initiate their part-time working career and working hours are also usually very tough. Government of Pakistan should maintain policies regarding students to let them be able to contribute in the country's economy. As well as internship programs should also be introduced on school level that help pupils to gain experience and prepare for the upcoming exposure to the industrial world.
